For your escapade in Akaroa join Eco seekers harbour cruise with Steve at the helm of his Rayglass Protector (an ex America’s Cup Chase boat & Coastguard Marine Rescue Vessel) an exciting, fun, safe sea-going boat that you will discover the beauty of the water and maybe encounter some of its unique habitant the Hector dolphins.

Following your thrilling harbour cruise, it will be time for you and your group to relax and open up your taste buds at French peak vineyard with Renan. There, either in its cosy cellar door or on a nice sunny day in a lovely courtyard overlooking the vineyard, you and your group will discover some of the award-winning local produce of Banks Peninsula with wine tasting and a platter to share including cheeses, smoke salmon, cured meat and more seasonal produces.

Your guide will tell you why those produces are so exceptional and all about the processes of how it is all gown and made. And if you would like you can ask to stop on the way back to meet the producers behind it and purchase these goodies.

You and your group will finish the day with a cocktail specially made for our tour by award winning Ma Maison restaurant on the waterfront. This cocktail is a taste of Akaroa and a nice way to end you afternoon with a glorious view (soft drinks options available too).

But your journey doesn’t have to stop here, if you wish to make your excursion in Akaroa longer and escape it all, simply add “Pohatu penguins – 24-hour package” to spend the night in the middle of a penguin colony and discover the Wildside of Banks Peninsula, ancient forest and the option to kayak the first marine reserve on the east coast of the South Island.

Itinerary
  • 2.15pm: Meeting at the Pohatu penguins booking office situated just behind the BNZ bank at 2/8 Rue Balguerie
  • 2.30: Meet Steve for your harbour cruise and discover Akaroa harbour and learn stories from a 5th generation descendant of the original settlers
  • 4.30pm: Your group will be dropped off at the Tikao bay wharf to continue on your journey where a minibus and your next guide will bring you to French Peak vineyard.
  • 6.00pm: return in Akaroa for an aperitive at Ma maison restaurant just by the water.

Add-on

  • Start the previous day with the Pohatu penguins 24-hour tour and accommodation farmstay package. you and your group can meet at the Pohatu penguins booking office at 11.45am.
  • 12pm back in Akaroa for lunch and getting ready for your 2.30pm departure time.

Once in the bay whether you have chosen to hike or continue on in with the guide, find yourself at Pohatu unique beach front quirky accommodations. We have cute cottage, a Tree house and a Gypsy cabin to choose from.

With a fully equipped communal kitchen and BBQ area to relax and unwind.

Please note that the harbour cruise part of the trip requires a minimum of 4 people. But even if there are less of you, the tour might go ahead as Steve might have other clients on his normal cruise.

What to bring
  • Sun protection and water for the harbour cruise
  • Bring warm clothing in case the weather or the wind get a bit cold.
  • Binoculars. Although we provide some, you might want to bring your own as we might not have one per person.
