Pohatu, on the south eastern corner of Banks peninsula near Christchurch, is the perfect place to make some memories and disconnect - literally disconnect - as there is no cell phone reception.
In this secluded bay, on the door step of a marine reserve with safe swimming beaches and ancient forest with short walks and waterfalls to explore is where you will find your accommodations. From a quirky Gipsy wagon or Tree house to a more common cottage, there is a sleeping unit for everyone.
Our fully equipped communal facilities with ovens, cook on top, fridges, microwave and BBQ has everything you would need to organise a memorable big diner for your group of friends or colleagues or larger family reunion. But if you would prefer, we can also organise a caterer from Akaroa to come and cook for you using seasonal local produces.
While at Pohatu you can either take it easy and relax or explore and be a bit more adventurous. You can join our complimentary evening penguin tour (in season) or even join a fully guided sea-kayaking safari to explore the marine reserve and its wildlife such as Fur seals, many marine bird species and the stunning volcanic outer-coast of Banks peninsula with high cliffs, rock stack and deep sea-caves. If you’re very keen and want to get involved with the conservation work done at the bay, we can also organise specific activities for your group so feel free to get in touch for any more details.
Nearby is also the township of Akaroa where many more activities depart from: Harbour cruises, Scenic mail run, Swimming with dolphins, Wine and local produces tour, Alpaca farm visit and much more.
Note that we can welcome group up to 15 persons at once from October to April and group up to 30 from May till the end of September.
